Transparency Report (AI)

A periodic public disclosure by AI companies detailing their models' capabilities, safety measures, usage statistics, and incident reports — increasingly required by regulation.

The EU AI Act requires foundation model providers to publish transparency reports covering training data, energy consumption, and model capabilities. Meta, Google, and OpenAI publish periodic transparency reports on content moderation and AI system performance. The Stanford Foundation Model Transparency Index evaluates how transparent major AI labs are across 100 indicators — no company scored above 75% in 2024. Transparency reporting helps build public trust, enables independent evaluation, and provides regulators with the information needed for effective oversight of AI systems.
