Classification

A supervised learning task where an AI model assigns input data to one of several predefined categories, such as spam detection, image labeling, or sentiment analysis.

Classification is one of the most widely deployed forms of machine learning in production systems. Applications range from email spam filtering (99.9% accuracy) to medical image diagnosis, where AI classifiers have matched or exceeded radiologist performance on certain tasks. Binary classification handles two classes (spam/not spam), while multi-class classification handles many categories. Deep learning classifiers trained on ImageNet's 1.2 million images across 1,000 categories have achieved superhuman accuracy since 2015.
