Content Authentication

Technologies and standards for verifying the origin and integrity of digital content, becoming critical as AI-generated images, video, and text become indistinguishable from human-created content.

The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) has developed an open standard for content credentials, backed by Adobe, Google, Microsoft, and Intel. Google's SynthID embeds invisible watermarks in AI-generated content. Over 500,000 deepfake videos are created monthly, making content authentication increasingly urgent. The EU AI Act requires AI-generated content to be labeled. Some social media platforms now display content credential indicators. The challenge remains that sophisticated actors can strip or forge provenance data, creating an ongoing arms race between authentication and forgery.
