DeepMind
Google's AI research laboratory, responsible for landmark achievements including AlphaGo, AlphaFold, and the Gemini model family, operating as a subsidiary of Alphabet.
DeepMind was acquired by Google for $500 million in 2014 and has since produced some of the most significant AI breakthroughs. AlphaGo's 2016 victory over the world Go champion was a watershed moment for AI. AlphaFold predicted the 3D structure of virtually all known proteins (200+ million), a problem that had stumped biologists for 50 years. DeepMind merged with Google Brain in 2023 to form Google DeepMind, which leads development of the Gemini model family. The lab publishes more influential AI research papers than any other organization.
