Falcon
An open-source large language model family developed by the Technology Innovation Institute in Abu Dhabi, representing the UAE's investment in becoming an AI hub.
Falcon 180B was one of the largest openly available language models at launch in 2023, trained on 3.5 trillion tokens of the RefinedWeb dataset. The model ranked at the top of the Hugging Face open LLM leaderboard upon release. Falcon demonstrated that organizations outside the US and China could develop competitive AI models. The Technology Innovation Institute released Falcon under permissive licenses, contributing to the global open-source AI ecosystem and positioning the Middle East as an emerging player in AI development.
